Ar’s viscount.  we got the bike at freeride.  building the wheels up, araya px-45 rim, suntour XCpro hubs, butted chromed spokes in the front, DT champion rear.  shimano 600 headset, nitto bullhorn bars (not pictured).  the bike came with early Dura Ace front and rear derailleurs.

due to an early cartridge style bottom bracket and taperless spindle that uses circlips to adjust chainline (the spindles are known for failing from excess stress caused by the circlip grooves), we tapped the blank shell with Italian threads and will install a modern, JIS tapered crankset (sugino xd350).

racks, bags, and fenders are ready to go thanx 2 kraynick’s and freeride!

gave a saf-T-presentation with nd from freeride today at a library.
It was a good time, i had some refreshments, we chatted about saftey with some people, gave out reflective tape.  one of the people in our group won a helmet from the library raffle during the Saf-T-Talk. it was great!  showed some basic tools and maintenance.  we didn’t even tap the fish tank or put our fingers in it!

Cool toolz!

-Tubing clamps in 1”, 1-1/8, 1-1/4, 1-1/2

-rubber tire mounting tool, turned frame/fork cold setting tool

chopper thrown together today from waste frame parts.

just a quick thing to ride around on gave me a sweet taste of recumbent riding.  Obviously I need to try the real thing now.

a little more time with the hacksaw tomorrow, an upgrade to a 24 inch rear, bmx front wheel, and some brakes are in order.  Given the semi recumbent riding position of this little chopper, it already goes faster than it should.

I cant wait to build an easy racer!

mock up II, need to pick up a few more nice pieces of tubing @ freeride in a couple hours!

Last night my neighbor that thew away the MAGNA I picked up the other night came by to tell me that two bikes were on the curb a block away.   I have no problem scrapping a HUFFY at freeride, but seeing a bicycle shaped object (a HUFFY) under black plastic hurts sometimes.

So here they are, WILD WAVE + DREAM JOURNEY

Rumor has it they are getting married!

huffy wedding

TEST RUN

last night I took the new 3 wheeler out for a test ride

looks like the bike will do better with a 1x8 drivetrain, need to get a fresh cassette and remove some of the housing.

it handles nicely, having the headtube angled forward 7 to 9 degrees tilts the back end on turns in a very helpful way.

scrap pile at Free Ride

we had to purge ourselves of quite a few BSOs (bicycle shaped objects) one night at freeride.  Huffy, Magna, Mongoose, Murray, Pacific, Quest, ROADMASTER! let it go!

the pile got twice as big by the end of the night.  too bad there are not as many mutant bikers here, these would be great for freek bikes.  As something for a person to work towards and maintain, it is just cruel to give someone a dept. store bike as transportation when there are so many better options available for free.  A huffy is fun, but they just don’t hold adjustments, and the new owner usually has a pretty bad time.

…but yesterday I did pick a Magna “echo ridge” up from the trash.  My neighbor had told me the night prior that his friend threw it out.   I looked at it that night, rejected it, and the next day I felt bad and took it home.  It seems like it will be more comfortable as part of a recumbent chopper.
